Max Weber

Max Weber was the son of the founder of Smith's Provisions in Erie that make Smith's hot dogs and bologna. He just passed away and my husband shared some memories of him with me this morning. When he and his dad, Grandpa, would go into the store (used to be located at 26th and Elmwood), Max would give the kids a free hot dog. It must have made quite an impression on him even then. I sounds like a precursor to the free cookie but with a savory twist! We are very lucky in Erie to have the quality of foods that we do and sometimes it's not until you move away and try and find something comparable that you come to appreciate it. Even my grandchildren enjoy Smith's bologna! Anyway, it was a very nice write-up in the paper this morning and I'm going to try and leave the link for you http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/erietimesnews/obituary.aspx?n=magnus-weber-max&pid=148056505&fhid=8584&sms_ss=favorites&at_xt=4d3d7b3608e69a28,0d.
